Spending the Day with Sprockids and Riding the Coast

The Sprockids program is a youth mountain bike club that offers kids the opportunity to experience Mountain biking. Now 20 years in and spanning the globe, Sprockids is one of the largest cycling clubs out there. Norco has been supporting the club since nearly its beginning and continues to be a partner in the continued growth of the program.

This past weekend Norco caught the ferry over to the Sunshine Coast to give a day of skills training and mountain biking to the kids. Running through skills such as cornering, pumping, skinnies and jumping, Norco Factory Team riders Jay Hoots, Dylan Korba and Sam Dueck Showed the ropes to all the kids. Keen Norco staff and riders also came to give a hand.

After the skills session it was time for a quick lunch and demonstration from the team. As the crowd mowed down on their dogs, Jay, Dylan and Sam put on a bit of a show. Finishing off with a mountain bike ride, the crew head out for the remainder of the afternoon. It is days like this that make me think back to what it was like being new to the sport and what it was that made me love my bike as much as I do!

Check out a few photos from the day’s events.

Crankworx 2009 – A Flurry of Activity on and off the Mountain

boneyard1

Whistler’s Crankworx festival is 10 days of activity that leaves the spectators in awe with world renound riders pushing the boundaries of cycling beyond what anyone would have believe possible a mere 5 years ago. Crankworx is more than just 10 days of incredible mountain biking though, it is also home of Canada’s largest consumer expo, trials demos, product launches, video premiers and more.

One of many highlights of the crankworx festival were the world famous Ryan Leech Trials Demos. Ryan was set up in the village next to the norco tents where approximately 25 2010 bikes were on display. Ryan conducted a total of 12 demos through the week. Each show attracted hundreds of spectators. Those who watched the show also were able to stick around for autographed posters and DVDs afterward. A lucky few from each show walked away in style with some brand new Ryders Eyewear.

On the trials front as well Crankworx hosted Trialsworx a trials competition taking place in the scenic Whistler Village. Norco’s one and only Dylan Korba took time away from the Boneyard to compete in the competition. As usual we were all left wondering, what can’t this guy do?

Norco World Team rider Fionn Griffiths is no stranger to ascending the podium but crankworx must have been wearing her out as she was up there all week. With a 2nd in the Dual Slalom, 1st in the Air DH and a 1st in the Canadian Open Enduro Fionn was representing the Brits at the top. Norco Factory Team Up and comer Nick Geddes also climbed to the top in the Enduro beating out all the other junior men by nearly a minute.

The biggest event of the Crankworx festival in undoubtedly the slopestyle competition. With all the big names showing up such as Semenuk, McCaul, Watts, Lacondeguy and more we all knew we were in for a show. In front of all 10,000+ fans lining the course, Watts pulled off the victory while Lacondeguy took best trick pulling out of his moto-bag a 360 Flat Spin Superman! All I can say is that I am impressed…

Another year in the books and already looking forward to next year!

2010 Norco Launch – Great riding in our own backyard.

The 2010 Norco product launch took place this year in our own backyard, Vancouver BC. This stellar location boasted some of the best riding in the world but also showcased Vancouver, the 2010 Olympic City!

The Launch started off at the Sheraton Wall Center where retailers, distributors and media from around the world assembled to see the new lineup for 2010. The evening kicked off with a Ryan Leech Demo. Ryan never dissapoints and with a little bit of improv-trials he even used some of the local art in the show. That was not planned . . . .

Day two of the launch involved bike presentations and a ride on Vancouver’s North Shore. Riding some of the classic trails was a real eye opener as there are not many places around the world where the riding is this good.

The third day of the launch was busy on bikes. Starting off with an Urban ride around Downtown Vancouver lead by Ryan Leech and Dylan Korba kicked it off. The bikes on the ride ranged from hybrid commuters to fixies, electric bikes to trials bikes. There was a taste of everything along the ride. Riding through the false creek area, Ryan and Dylan were on entertainment duty while the rest of us enjoyed the scenery and experienced the Cycling lanes on the Burrard St. Bridge. Way to go Vancouver on opening this up to cyclists!.

After the Urban ride and a quick lunch we headed off to Burnaby Mountain, home of Simon Fraser University for a taste of All Mountain terrain. Burnaby is a great area to ride offering a little bit of everything. It was a beautiful day, great trails, and a BBQ waiting at the end. The perfect end to a great launch.
