Community Support

Norco’s promise to deliver the very best cycling experiences extends beyond the extraordinary bicycles we make. That’s why for every bike sold we donate a dollar to cycling advocacy programs and organizations throughout North America. Over the past three years, Norco Bicycles has contributed roughly $300,000 to a wide range of successful initiatives. We continue to support many very worthwhile causes in 2013; some of them are listed below.

The Ride to Conquer Cancer (RTCC) is Canada's largest cycling fundraiser, raising nearly $150 million in support of cancer research over the past five years. Every summer, RTCC rides take place in four locations throughout Canada: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. Since 2011, Norco has been the RTCC’s official bicycle and technical support sponsor for all four regional events.

Bikes Belong works to get more people riding bicycles. The organization promotes cycling by offering grants and partnerships and by working with policy makers on a range of initiatives. Bikes Belong is concerned with creating safe areas to ride, improving awareness and promoting the development of cycling infrastructure.

The International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) plays a key role in the maintenance and development of mountain biking in Canada. The IMBA is a keystone of Canadian mountain bike culture, working tirelessly to improve trail access, provide trail building expertise and act as a voice for the mountain bike community in political arenas.

The Canadian Cycling Association's CAN-BIKE program offers instructional cycling courses to Canadians nationwide. CAN-BIKE courses train students how to have a safer, more enjoyable time on the road – with a focus on recreational and utilitarian cycling. The CAN-BIKE program provides a nationally standardized set of courses that can be taught through a variety of organizations.

Pedalheads is an instructional program that teaches kids how to have fun and be safe on bikes. The organization offers an eight-level instructional bike safety and skills program for children aged 3-12. The program includes lessons focused on safety knowledge, safety skills, trail riding, street riding, and bike maintenance.

LifeCycle teaches kids how to ride safely on the road with cars. By teaching both in the classroom and outside in controlled, traffic-free environments, LifeCycle gives children a clearer understanding of the potential hazards that can face cyclists on the road. Norco supports LifeCycle and their efforts to keep kids safe while enjoying their bikes.

The MS Bike Tour is a pledge-based fundraising event that provides Canadians with the opportunity to ride for a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. The MS Bike Tour has been a critical part of the MS Society’s fundraising efforts for over 20 years. Proceeds fund innovative programs and services and support groundbreaking MS research.

HUB, formerly the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition, is a non-profit society established in 1998 to address cycling issues in Metro Vancouver. HUB works to promote cycling health, safety and connected communities. The organization offers safe cycling courses to riders of all ages and hosts Bike To Work Week twice a year.

Bicycle Maintenance and Assembly Program

BAM (Bicycle Assembly and Maintenance) is a Toronto-based training program organized by the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada. BAM offers an eight-week course that provides potential entry-level mechanics with the necessary skills to pursue employment opportunities in the rapidly growing bicycle industry.

The NSMBA is one of the longest-running mountain bike associations in Canada. Helping to protect North Vancouver’s fabulous trail system while improving trail conditions, access and more, the NSMBA is a great asset to Vancouver’s mountain bike riders. Norco’s support of the NSMBA is one way that we can give back to an organization that has done so much for the mountain biking community.

Toronto is a city that embraces cycling as an essential part of its sustainable transportation network. Cycle Toronto (formerly the Toronto Cyclists Union) is a diverse member-supported organization that advocates for a healthy, safe, cycling-friendly city for all.

The Share the Road Cycling Coalition is a provincial cycling advocacy organization created to unite cycling organizations from across Ontario. The organization’s mandate is province-wide with a specific focus on developing public policy at the provincial level in order to provide the kind of legislative, programmatic and funding instruments needed to promote cycling effectively.
