The Good and the Bad, It's a Bumpy Road

The Good and the Bad, It's a Bumpy Road

Take the bad with the good...

First, the bad -- Being on the injured list. As you all know, if you ride enough and like to play hard, sooner or later you are going to end up on the ground. I’m no exception to that rule. Normally (touch wood here) I’m pretty lucky at picking myself up, dusting off, laughing about the dumb move I just tried, and getting back to riding.

A few weeks back, a second or two of brainfade on Dirt Merchant left me laying on the ground with a separated shoulder and couple of cracked ribs. Now, ten days later I still can’t sleep on my back, front or left side, and have trouble breathing deep, sneezing or making any quick movements. I’m on the mend now though… this morning was the first time in close to 2 weeks that I was able to take my pup out for her morning ride. I’ve kept a positive spin on it all, thinking back on all the hours I have been able to ride healthy, you just have to take the bad with the good. I’ll be back… there is a wicked left line step-up calling my name out there.

Also... no matter how bad you think you have it, there is always someone worse off. While I’m licking my wounds there was another fellow in there with 2 broken wrists and a broken collarbone. Man, what I am complaining about! I’m golden compared to his issues.

And the good? Well, there has been LOTS of good over the past month. By now you have probably seen some of the 2009 bikes on line. Norco's 2009 International Distributors and Media Product launch was recently up in Whistler and even as close as I am to the pulse, the bikes look awesome. Keep an eye out for the 2009 website to be launched at the end of August.

With Crankworx starting next week, team riders in town, new bikes to show off in a world class resort like Whistler, again, how great is that. Oh yeah, combine all that cool stuff with the fact that summer might have finally shown up, and it isn’t pouring rain and cold and really I’ve got nothing to complain about! Nothing at all…

So, in this busy world, my small words of wisdom (if I have any at all) would be to take the bad with the good and keep on moving forward. Enjoy every moment you spend on two wheels, as it isn’t till you are sidelined that you realize how great those times are. Ride your bike – every day if you can!

As always, happy trails.
