Team Update: UCI World Cup XCO #3 – Vallnord, Andorra
July 5, 2017
The Norco Factory Team was in Vallnord, Andorra this past weekend for round #3 on the XCO World Cup circuit. The high altitude course presented riders with a mix of steep, punchy climbs, loose descents, and ever-changing weather conditions that were sure to spice up race day. The entire team would choose their Revolver FS as their weapon to tackle the course.
The races started with the U23 Men. Peter had the privilege of starting in the front row again after a great result at round #2 in Germany. This would be Quinton’s first World Cup and he would start in the 5th row. With heavy rain the night before, the course was greasy for the first few laps but the brothers navigated the course with ease thanks to Kenda Kozmic tires up front and Saber Pros in the rear.
The opening laps saw Peter in the top 5 but the hard early efforts in combination with the altitude would catch up to him and he would slip to 7th place by the end.
Quinton had a solid race, moving his way through the field sitting in the top 30. Unfortunately, a very substantial crash in the final lap forced Quinton to settle for 55th place. Quinton was uninjured – big thanks to his Smith helmet – and will be good to go for round #4 this weekend.
Next up was the Elite Women, ready to battle the conditions and the thin air. Haley put moved through the field well, riding within the top 30 in the opening laps. Battling with familiar names such as Lea Davison and Eva Lechner, Haley rode into 26th by the end of lap four. With two laps remaining, the altitude and previous week’s illness caught up with Haley and she faded to finish 32nd. Now moving on to Lenzerheide, Haley is looking forward to having a bit more oxygen in the air!
The team looks forward to going to work and riding the Revolver FS on the rough course in Lenzerheide, Switzerland this weekend. With another top 10 finish, Peter will be lining up as #4 and hopes to move up the World Cup ranking up even more. Quinton is ready to put up another battle in Lenzerheide with hopes of a clean race to show what he’s got and end his Euro campaign on a high note!
