Norco’s 2011 Vixa – Darcy’s Team Build

The 2011 event season is about to get rolling. As a result each rider on the Norco Factory Team is getting their arsenal of bikes ready to attack for whatever may come in their way. For Norco Factory Team Rider Darcy Turenne, one such bike is the Norco Vixa. As a women’s specific freeride bike, Darcy prefers a Shimano Saint Kit, Rockshox suspension and Kenda Tires. The rest of the build completes the bike with gear from FSA/Gravity, WTB, E-13 and DT Swiss.

Here are some photos of the new ride.

Interviewing a Catherine “Hadley” Vipond from over the pond.

Although, in North America we refer to her with the name Vipond, it seems the UK alias Hadley has shone through in a recent interview with xcracer.com. Interested is reading about what it is like to being a rising star on the World Cup XC circuit? Check out this interview with Norco Factory Team rider Catherine Vipond.

Canada – home to amazing singletrack, cutting edge bike brands and a long history of world class riders. XCracer.com caught up with Norco Factory Team rider Catherine Hadley to find out more about her busy 2010 season and what the racing scene is like across the pond.

Hi Catherine, set the scene and tell us a little background of what you’ve done previously and how this influenced what you did this year?

I have been racing mountain bikes for close to ten years now. I started with local racing, then the Ontario Provincial Race Series, then the Canada Cup Series. For the last couple years the North American World Cups as well. This year I decided to head over to England and Belgium for the first two European World Cups, mostly for the experience of racing the higher calibre races. Racing the World Cup Series is definitely a goal so getting out and being able to do that was great.

See Jane Jump at Mount Washington

On August 21st and 22nd, girl shredders invaded the trails of Mount Washington Alpine Resort for the first annual See Jane Jump women’s mountain bike festival. 50 riders, ranging in skill level from beginner to expert, were greeted by gift bags filled with goodies by event sponsors Oakley, Norco, Gravity, Denman Island Chocolates, and Vitamin Water, and soon after collecting their swag riders were paired up by head coach Katrina Strand with one of nine pro coaches. Trail riding, yoga, wine, and a slideshow of the days’ events by photographer Dan Barham were on the menu for the weekend, and Oakley-provided accommodation at Deer Lodge allowed participants to rest easy after a busy day on the trails.

Event organizer and pro rider Darcy Turenne designed the weekend to cater to all levels of riders –even experts– and surprised riders with a slopestyle course designed specifically for the event and built by the Mount Washington trail crew. The course was taken advantage of during the Sunday afternoon slopestyle demo where participants, family members, and onlookers lined the course to see the coaches and expert riders in their element. Although the slopestyle attracted a large crowd, perhaps the most popular venues of the festival were Norco’s free bike servicing by Norco Factory Team mechanic Jonathan Duncan and free chiropractic and deep-tissue work provided by Dr.Lindsay McKeeman.

At the end of the day each participant walked away with two new pairs of Oakley goggles and two lucky ladies went home with a pair of Shimano XT wheels, and the biggest ticket item of all, a Norco Vixa freeride frame. “This weekend totally renewed my love of all things bikes,” quotes one participant, “thanks again for organizing such an awesome weekend! It was so fun and I think we all really learned a lot!”

Pro coaches for the 2010 event included Katrina Strand, Claire Buchar, Tammy Donahugh, Lorraine Blancher, Wendy Robinson, Beth Parsons, Emily Johnston, Kat Sweet, and Angi Weston. See Jane Jump festival would like to thank the following sponsors for their amazing support: Oakley, Norco, Gravity/FSA, Shimano, Budget Rent-A-Car, Denman Island Chocolates, Skullcandy, Chainlink Clothing, Vitamin Water, and Mount Washington Alpine Resort.

Norco Phena – Ready out of the box

It has been a cold and wet, West Coast Spring – absolutely perfect for mountain biking! Whistler is full-on at any time of year, but if you love Mountain biking, this spring has started out to be fantastic for exciting trail riding action!

Yesterday, we climbed up Cougar Mountain to the trail head of the Flank to Alpine. We hit deep snow at the 3600 foot trail head, and so, had to descend back down the logging road – bummer! Maybe in a month if the sun shines hot again! The trails below 3500 feet have been just awesome, and as always the trail maintenance crews have been out creating some pretty cool new rides.
