2012 Norco Dealer Launch Recap

_MG_6134

The 2012 Norco International Dealer Launch took place in July where the top Norco Dealers from Canada, US and International locations gathered in beautiful North Vancouver BC for the Launch of the 2012 Norco Bikes. The event span over three days where attendees were given the lowdown on the new Norco product line. The most important part of the launch though is getting out to ride; Norco bikes are made to be ridden and that is what the launch is all about.

2011_07_NorcoDealerLaunch-11

Upon arrival in North Vancouver the event kicked off with an urban ride around the famous Stanley Park Seawall. For this ride, the crew split into groups and head out for a post-travel light pedal. The 10km loop around the park takes riders beneath the Lions Gate Bridge, past the 9 O’Clock Gun, through 3rd beach and back to the Seabus for a quick hop back to the hotel. For this ride, the perfect bike can be a mountain bike, road bike or even and urban commuter- it doesn’t matter. It is all about being on a bike – any bike!

2011_07_NorcoDealerLaunch-17

Following the urban ride, the next morning was time for a bit of a classroom session to learn about the bikes that were to be ridden that afternoon. Setting up in the world famous riding area of Seymour Mtn. riders had the option of Road, Cross Country, All Mountain or Freeride trail options. With more than 120 demo bikes available, everyone was given the opportunity to ride whatever bike they felt the urge to swing a leg over.

2011_07_NorcoDealerLaunch-26

The Trails in the Mt. Seymour area are amazing. From flowing singletrack to steep rocky climbs there is a little bit of everything whether you are testing out a 100mm 29er or a 200mm DH bike there is something that will suit just about anyone on pretty much any bike.

After an afternoon of riding and a few minor tweaks to the fleet of bikes, we did it all over again the following day. Starting the morning off with a few presentations we were back out riding the trails by lunchtime.

2011_07_NorcoDealerLaunch-50

At the end of two days of riding, the bikes were rounded up and tucked away. All 120 plus bikes had seen several riders and pretty much every attendee had ridden at least a few different  bikes. Besides a little bit of west coast rain the event could not have gone any smoother. The result was smiling faces, muddy bikes and a whole lot of excitement for the year to come.

2011_07_NorcoDealerLaunch-23

No event is complete without a few beers, a BBQ and of course a Ryan Leech trials demonstration. For this we head over to a local Jay Hoots Bike Park where we set up and did a little bit of socializing. We were lucky enough to have the boys from the Dirt Norco Race Team Ben Reid and Dan Stanbridge out for the event as well. When they weren’t talking about their input into the 2012 Norco Aurum or the current World Cup Season and found a little time to hit the dirtjumps local park.

2011_07_NorcoDealerLaunch-34

Of course, the Ryan Leech Trials Demonstration is always a crowd pleaser. With a bit of a slippery stage set, Ryan put on two shows at the BBQ and did not disappoint. What an amazing show! If you have never seen a Ryan Leech Demo, put it on your demo list. This is the best trials demonstration in the world!

2011_07_NorcoDealerLaunch-28

A big thanks to everyone that came out! Hopefully we will sea you again next year. For everyone else that was not able to attend. Check back next month for the new 2012 Norco Bikes to be on norco.com. In the meantime here are a few links to tide your excitement.

Ryan Leech and Danny MacAskill – The Ultimate Show

There are a few names in the cycling world that it seems everyone knows. Spanning over decades there are still names that make your ears perk up when they ring through the airwaves. These are names such as Pete, Tinker, Lopes, Tomac, Hill, the list goes on but in this case we are talking about Leech and Macaskill. Two of the best known trials riders around this past weekend they finally got together through the venue of Crankworx. Saturday’s 2pm Ryan Leech Trials Demo featured a guest appearance from Danny Macaskill where the two performed together for a massive audience on the biggest day of Kokanee Crankworx.

Watching the two ride together, the two styles could not be more different. Ryan is a a composed, methodical and precise rider while Danny is Fluid, momentum driven and powerful rider. Both incredible to watch, but approach each obstacle in a completely different manner.

Crankworx 2011 – Team, Trials and Tricks

It is that time of year again. The time where it is normal to see Semanuck, Lopes, and Hill in one spot. The time where a liquid induced headache is considered a necessary handicap to level the playing field. That is right, this is Crankworx.

After launching the 2012 bike line to Norco Dealers and international media, it is time to give the public the first peek at the 2012 lineup. Plus, the Norco Team has assembled in Whistler BC for a bit of a reunion. With Ryan Leech, Jay Hoots, Sam Dueck, Darcy Turenne, Angie Hohenwarter, Nick Geddes, and the boys from Dirt all in Whistler for the week, things get interesting. Through the week, Ryan in doing daily demos, Sam is competing in Best Trick and Slopestyle, Darcy hosted the Deep Summer Photo Challenge, The Dirt Norco Race Team is Racing the DH(s) and Jay is riding and inspiring in his usual stoke-inspiring manner. The Norco Team is in full force taking charge of this town they call Whistler. Here are a few photos from the week so far. I hope you enjoy!

BC Ride To Conquer Cancer – Great Work!!!!

The British Columbia Ride To Conquer Cancer is the 2nd of 4 tours across Canada raising money in the search for a cure to cancer. For the BC ride, 2879 riders participated riding approximately 220kms from Vancouver BC to Seattle WA. These riders came together to raise an impressive $11.1 million. That averages out to nearly $4000 per person!

The ride down to Seattle was the wettest of the tours 3 year history. Riders fought through rain, cold and wind for 2 days in order to complete this epic and inspiring ride. Along the way, Norco was on location as the official Bike Tech for the event. Changing flat tires, replacing tires, fixing brakes, adjusting gears, truing wheels and anything else that came up along the way allowed the whole lot of participants to make it through to the finish line.

A big thank you to all the participants, volunteers, supporters and RTCC personnel for making this happen. You are the means to finding a cure! For more photos check out flickr.com/norcobikes

Next week is the Alberta edition of The Ride To Conquer Cancer so stay tuned for coverage of that event as well.

The Wheel To Heal Is The Real Deal

Raising money benefiting Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation the Wheel to Heal is an event where close to two hundred participants came out to support the cause on their bikes. For the event Norco came out to offer tech support to the riders and offer encouragement in the less than optimal riding conditions. Though the sky had opened up for the day’s ride, the riders were chipper and ready to roll for the great cause.

Norco’s very own Ryan Leech came out for the event as well and followed it up with a trials demonstration for the soggy participants. Thank you to everyone that helped out at the event and everyone that participated in raising money for The Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation.

Sea Otter Classic Turns 21, Norco Was There

20110414_SeaOtter_04_4005

The Sea Otter Classic has come and gone. In it’s 21st year of existence it did not disappoint either. Entertaining thousands of spectators, providing limitless adrenalin for hundreds of racers and housing hundreds of vendors at the Expo, the 2011 Sea Otter Classic was bigger and better than ever before. Best of all, the event is held in Beautiful Monterey California. Nothing quite like a Cali roadtrip.

2011_DustanS_SeaOtter_075

The Drive south is all too familiar but through Washington and Oregon, over the mountain passes and into the California Sun the drive was scenic, sunny and a few days of lead-up before the event kicks off.

11_SeaOtter_DustanS_Norco115

It would be an abomination to drive all the way to California and not ride, so after arriving on site and doing a quick setup we head out for a ride in the beautiful rolling hills. Smooth singletrack, green grass and blue skies. After being cooped up in a vehicle for a few days, this was the prescription for working out the cobwebs.

20110416_SeaOtter_06_4360

The main reason for coming to Sea Otter is to catch the racing action. Through XC, DH, DS, DJ, Pumptrack, Road, and really anything else you can think of there is something to amuse even the pickiest of spectators. Catherine Vipond made the trek to race the Cross Country and set a prescient for the season finishing in 18th place for the Pro Women.

20110415_SeaOtter_04_3879

The Dual Slalom was another riveting event where Nick Geddes fought his way through the field to finish in 4th place for the Junior Men. Nick was unable to compete in the DH after being admitted into the hospital. You can read more about Nick and his condition here.

20110416_SeaOtter_06_4442

Slopestyle savant Sam Dueck was also having some facetime at the event with teamate Mislav Mironovic. The two of them competed in the Dirt Jumping Competitions where Sam pulled off a 2nd and a third with his huge flips and stellar style.

20110417_SeaOtter_06_4245

A staple of Sea otter for the past few years has been the Ryan Leech Trials Demonstrations. Through the four days of events Ryan put on 10 different shows to amaze the seas of spectators. His poise, style and fluid nature or riding make the whole spectacle seem simple and routine while performing the seemingly impossible on a bicycle. Watch for Ryan to perform at the Crankworx Cycling Festival in Whistler BC this July.

20110416_SeaOtter_06_4287

If you didn’t know, Ryan is also a certified Yoga instructor. As a means of preparing for a day of riding and physical exertion, Ryan limbers up with a morning Yoga session. Joining him each morning was as many as 30 people for the early start. Yoga is a great way to combat the abuse of cycling on your body.

20110416_SeaOtter_06_4367

Beyond the racing, competing and Yoga-ing, the expo area at Sea Otter was bigger than ever. At the Norco booth, we boasted highlights from the 2011 lineup and even showed off a few prototype models that will be available next year. Between consumers, media and racers the week was jam packed with action. Pat was a little excited…

20110417_SeaOtter_06_4271

At the Norco booth we also had a draw for a 2011 Norco VFR. With hundreds of people entered one lucky winner from outside the bay area walked home with a shiny new steed. Congratulations to the lucky winner and thank you to everyone that entered.

Sea Otter is now complete but the 2011 event season has barely started. We are looking down the road at events such as Bike To Work Week, Ride To Conquer Cancer, Product Launch, Crankworx, Interbike and many more. Be sure to keep an eye on norco.com/news for the latest event news.

Seattle Recap, What is Next?

20110312_DustanS_SBS_2841The first show of the Norco 2011 Event Season was the Seattle Bike Expo. With 7000 attendees, hundreds of exhibitors and countless deals to be had, the Norco Crew made the short jaunt into the stars and stripes for the weekend-long show. Displaying the latest Norco Bikes, Axiom Gear and even holding a contest to win a Norco bike the show was teeming with enthousiasm.

20110312_DustanS_SBS_2730If the show itself wasn’t enough, next to the Norco booth was the world renowned Ryan Leech Trials Demonstration. Two shows a day drew massive crowds excited to see the balancing act and to get an autograph after the show. In the same area as Ryan was the German Artistic Cycling Team doing their ‘non-conventional’ demonstration. While it is not exactly helping the cycling ‘cool factor’ it is none-the-less quite entertaining.

20110312_DustanS_SBS_2805

The Seattle show was a blast as expected for everyone involved but now we must look onward to the other, fast-approaching shows fast approaching. Seattle marks the ignition of a busy season to come.

The Next big show on the Norco Schedule is the Sea Otter Classic in Monterrey California. This is the kickoff event for the 2011 Race Season. With the world’s best cyclist showing up for the racing action Sea otter is a great place for spectators, racers and even those trying to get a sneak peek at 2012 product. (hint-hint)

Following Sea Otter is a series of events called The Ride To Conquer Cancer. With four tours starting in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal more than 10,000 riders will raise money towards finding a cure for cancer. Norco will take part in all four events as the Official Bike Tech Sponsor of The Ride To Conquer Cancer.

July seems like it is still ages away but before we know it Crankworx will be here yet again. The biggest cycling event in North America returns to Whistler this July 16-24. This cycling event takes into account nearly every cycling competition possible and hosts upwards of 100,000 people through the 9 day festival. This will also be your first chance to see the 2012 Norco Lineup. Next years bikes will be on display during the festival for your viewing pleasure.

While these are three big events that are just over the horizon, there are many more that we will be out supporting. For a full list of Norco Events you can check out the Team Calendar or check in with your local Norco Dealer.
