Dragon DH: Abercarn, Wales
This past weekend took myself, my mum, and Jill all the way to South Wales for the Dragon DH in Abercarn. It was kind of fun to be back to my roots, racing out of the family camper van at the local Welsh Series races. The only part that was missing was my Dad who was at the Grand Prix in Italy. Thankfully the weather held out for us all weekend and the camping was great. The track was a lot of fun, really flowy and fast but still rough in places. It was great to be racing again on British soil! I saw lots of people I haven't seen in years.
Saturday (Round 3): I had time to get a few practice runs in before racing started. We started racing by 11am. My 1st race run was pretty smooth with a couple of stops. I ended up with a time of 2:07. The format at Welsh races is best of two so my 2nd run I tried to go faster. I was aiming for the 2:00 barrier but I took off from the start trying too hard, got a little loose in a few turns and scrubbed a bit more speed than I wanted. I did improve my time but only by 1 second. This was still enough to give me a confident win in the Elite Women's class.
Sunday (Round 4): A little bit of rain over night left the track quite greasy. It managed to dry out by racing time though. My 1st run was going well but I got off line in one right hand turn and ended up over the bars in the next left due to a misplaced tree-stump (or wheel). : The 2nd run was a lot better and I came through at 2:07 again, enough to give me my 2nd win of the weekend.
