Rider Bio
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I started out as a cross-country skier and did some riding as cross training. After graduating from high school I decided that I’d stick with the mountain biking as it worked better with attending school. Plus, skiing was just too cold. After graduating with a degree in Life Sciences I’ve worked many random jobs supporting my bike racing habit. I’ve lived and trained all over Canada and gotten to travel all over the world while doing something I love and meeting amazing people.
What has been your best riding experience so far? Any career highlights?
Career highlights include winning the 2011 Canada Cup Series and finishing 31st at World Championships in Champery, Switzerland. Some of my best riding experiences are getting to ride with awesome teammates and friends all over the world, whether it is at training camps in Victoria or prepping for world Championships in Switzerland I love riding my bike.
Where is your favorite place to ride, and what bike would you take?
There are so many amazing places to ride that choosing is tough. Recently I headed up to Whitehorse for a bit and was treated to some incredible trails and views. For bike choice my norco team hardtail was a solid choice being nice and light for the mountain climbs and still fun for the descents. However, I think the phaser would have made the riding just that much more fun.
What is your favorite thing to do on a bike?
I love just riding my bike and exploring new places and trails.
What is your first memory of riding? What first got you into riding?
My brother got me into riding, I basically did whatever he did and I can remember trying to chase him around, crashing a lot and needing help getting out of my clipless pedals.
When you’re not biking what are you usually doing?
While I’m living in Canmore you can find me in the mountains whether it is hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, riding or running. Luckily I have a job too, so I am forced to take some recovery while working at the Bill Warren Training Centre.
What are your goals for the next year or so?
Continually make progress in the international field. I finished the 2011 season off strongly and I want to build on that next year. Nationals are always a big goal for me as well as just generally improving my riding skills.
What song on your iPod gets you pumped to ride right now?
Well, I never charge my iPod and always resort back to Jingle Bells.
What would your perfect day look like?
To start, banana chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. Any day that involves a long, fun mountain bike ride is a good day. Hitting some challenging trails is always good too and my perfect day would finish by hanging out at a lake and eating marshmallows around a campfire.
