Norco/Symmetrics Cycling's newest recruit, Toronto's Andrew Randell, showed just why he is one of the most feared racers in Ontario on a start line. Although heavily marked, outnumbered and outgunned by the strong Jet Fuel, Italpasta and R.A.C.E teams, Randell took the win today - his first with the S-Team - at the Mosport Classic in Bowmanville, Ontario.
The 120km Mosport Raceway course features a short loop - used normally for auto-racing, with a tough climb each lap. Always an attritious race, the pace took its toll on most of the field early. However, with names such as Tour de France legend Steve Bauer (R.A.C.E), Fiorda Frutta's Buck Miller, and yesterday's Good Friday Road Race winner, and Espoir National Champ, Ryan Roth (R.A.C.E.) patrolling the many breaks of the day, it was certainly no small task for the one-man show Randell.
"It was another tough day on the circuit," Randell explained. "It was really windy on the climb and Buck Miller and I had to bridge a 3-minute gap. It's good I had Buck with me because we had to work really hard."
Randell was cool in the finale, attacking hard and soloing in almost half a minute ahead of Roth.
