The thick Madeira dust has settled and the sweat has been washed down with a swim in the Atlantic ocean after the Enduro World Series #3 has crowned its winners. Norco Twins Racing's Anita Gehrig and Caro Gehrig were both in Madeira to tackle the rough, fast and dusty stages on the epic trails of Portugal.
Anita had her game-face on and scored her first podium of the year! A crash on Loic Bruni's "Gamble" trail saw her biting the dust and loose precious time, but with five more stages to race on Sunday, the race was still far from over. It all came down to the last two stages of the day where Anita had her eyes firmly set on her goal. After a puncture and a painful encounter with a crash barrier - without even crashing afterwards - she finished 5th overall and earned herself the first podium of the season.
Madeira was wild! After the first day of racing going so well I had my eyes set on a podium finish here. After a time consuming crash in the first stage of day 2, I found composure again and was riding well. I enjoyed the wild and loose stages and just had a blast riding my bike. Unfortunately, I had a flat tire higher up in the last stage and ultimately lost a lot of time. Despite aiming higher I'm happy with my 5th place, it's a big step into the right direction and gives me confidence for the rest of the season. - Anita Gehrig
Caro Gehrig is still recovering from her wrist injury from earlier this year but is very happy to move closer to where she wants to be with a 12th place at the third stop of the Enduro World Series, a fairly smooth ride and numerous shining moments throughout the weekend with good speed and great riding.
"What an amazing time to race in Madeira! After the wild, wet weather last time, we had the polar opposite this time around. Deep dust bowls and hot temperatures made for an intense weekend! I'm happy with my performance as it's a step in the right direction and I'm excited to be heading to the big races in the alps soon. I'm sure this will play into my strengths!" - Caro Gehrig
The twins are now back home in Switzerland and are getting ready for the next Enduro World Series stop in Val di Fassa, Italy, on June 29th. Before that, Caro and Anita are racing the Crankworx DH events in Innsbruck, Austria, and will host their sold out Twins Women's Bike Camp in Flims, Switzerland on June 22-23.
