  • Steak-Sauce Ramblings: Can you put a value on a good wheelie?

    May 5, 2015

    A good wheelie??…………………………. PRICELESS !
As we all know, watching someone pulling off a sweet wheelie just makes you smile right?  A little envious maybe too, but mostly you know that rider is having FUN.  And also we all realize that knowing how to wheelie isn’t something that comes naturally to most riders.  It requires practice and commitment.  Don’t think this is a mountain bike only discussion OK, as even on a road bike a short snap type wheelie – even if your front wheel only comes up an inch or so is still of great value –– to unweight the front of your bike over a bridge expansion plate, or up a square edge on a curb… and of course on a mountain bike getting your wheel un-weighted and up and over a log on a trail or big chunky root.  The fact is, a wheelie is a super valuable skill to have in your quiver, no matter what your ability level is, and NO you are not too old to learn how.

So… how much is a wheelie worth to you?  Come on now… how much would you pay a cycling coach to actually spend some time with you and teach you how to wheelie?  Think about that for a sec.  Most coaches charge in the range of $75 to $150 per hour, and the only negative to hiring a coach would be a) it most likely would be information overload to get a ton of coaching on one topic in an hour or more of private coaching, and b) most people would be too tired to even continue the lesson after the first 20 or 30 minutes.

Well then, if I told you that you could learn how to do a great wheelie in 15-20 minutes a day over the course of a month for ½ the price of the cheapest coffee at Starbucks per day, wouldn’t you do what I did and yell out WHOOOHOOOO!! WHERE? I’m IN!!!

It’s true…  Trials superstar (and cycling coach) Ryan Leech has spent hundreds of hours filming and writing out a complete “wheelie how to” instructional lesson set, and just so you don’t get too thrashed trying to cram it all into a short timeframe, he has spread this out over a month of lessons.  And funny enough it’s called The 30 day Wheelie Challenge. And at a buck a day its totally affordable to ANYONE wanting to learn how to wheelie.

You may think this is a shameless plug for Ryan’s program – well it IS!  As wheelie’ing is darn fun and yes even YOU can learn how to wheelie, in 15 short minutes a day over the next 30 days.  Don’t kid yourself, you and I both know you’d love to bust out a wicked wheelie in front of your riding friends.  Now’s your chance.
