Celebrating Female Athletes This International Women’s Day
March 8, 2018
Today is International Women’s Day, and we’re celebrating some of the inspiring women who are pushing boundaries and smashing barriers in our sport.
Women like Jill Kintner, four-time Queen of Crankworx, who inspires a new generation of female athletes, and gives back to the community through her efforts in motivating women and by constructing world-class public pump tracks in her home town.
The organizers of the Hot on Your Heels Women’s Enduro in Squamish, BC, who are paving the way for more women to join us in enjoying the freedom, camaraderie and competition of Enduro Mountain Bike racing.
Athletes like Caro and Anita Gehrig from Norco Twins Racing who run women’s mountain bike camps in their home country Switzerland and promote mountain bike events in their communities to smash the barriers of entry for many young women looking to ride at a more competitive level.
Women like Haley Smith, who is a passionate athlete that lives for cycling, openly addresses the importance of mental health in sports and personal life and supports non-profit organizations like Fast and Female, which is dedicated to empowering young women to stay healthy, happy and active.
Riders like Darcy Turenne, who was an early leader in women’s mountain biking, having a hand in designing the Norco Vixa, our first women’s specific freeride bike, back in 2010. These days Darcy is busy producing films like ‘The Moment‘, celebrating how far our sport has progressed from its humble beginnings in the North Shore mountains of British Columbia.
Norco’s women’s program is our way of supporting the innovative, inspiring, and exceptional female pioneers to our sport, paving the way for a new generation of female mountain bike heroes. We’ve taken everything we’ve learned since the earliest days of the Norco Women’s Race team with Fionn Griffiths and Catherine Vipond, and built up on that knowledge and energy to ensure that we’re doing everything we can to encourage female riders around the world to join us in the celebration of our sport.
Happy International Women’s Day, everyone!
