  • Norco Factory Team’s Haley Smith Wins Bronze at 2018 Commonwealth Games

    April 12, 2018

Gold Coast, Australia; Norco Factory Team athlete and Canadian, Haley Smith won bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Women’s Cross Country yesterday. We could not be more excited and proud to see Haley’s tremendous hard work and ambition rewarded, and seeing her return home with a bronze medal from her first Commonwealth Games appearance is truly outstanding.

“I didn’t have a lot of expectations for a specific performance when I came here. I struggled this week with believing that I deserved to be here, so my Games experience was more about feeling the atmosphere and being confident in myself and my preparation. When I got to the start line, all I wanted to do was race and it worked out.”

The 6-lap 27.7 km race took place on the fast and flowy Nerang Mountain Bike trails where athletes were challenged with dry dirt and extreme heat. After a great start and earning the hole shot, Haley had to settle in at 7th place after the first steep climbs of the race course. Haley moved up steadily during the first four laps, working her way up to 4th behind Emily Batty. It wasn’t long before Haley was able to take over 3rd place and move herself up to a podium position. Haley was able to pull away and drop Batty, finishing 3rd and winning the bronze medal in her Commonwealth Games debut.

“There are some top international performers here, and I didn’t really know what to expect of myself. I’m really happy, and this is something I will have for the rest of my life. I feel very proud and humbled, and fulfilled.”

“There are so many emotions and words flying around my head right now, but for now I’ll just say THANK YOU to everyone who was a part of this. I will never, ever forget this moment.”
