Norco Factory Team’s Peter and Quinton Disera kicked off the US Cup Series in Southridge Park, Fontana, this past weekend. The demanding 8km course with steep climbs and few sections to recover made for a tough race in the strong competitive field.
The weekend kicked off with the XCO race on Saturday were Quinton had a great start and was able to keep a fast pace at the beginning. Shortly after, Peter took over and drove the pace up the paved climb continuing to fight hard all race. Peter earned himself a podium spot and finished 3rd while Quinton finished 31st after a mechanical in the 3rd lap.
“I was pleased to land a spot on my first US Cup podium. The race was a tough one with a very demanding track and hot weather. Andrew and I got off to a very good start actually getting away from the main pack. We were joined by two other riders and this group of 4 would remain together until the final lap when fireworks started to fly. It was a good battle but when the attack went down on the last lap I didn’t have it in me. I settled for 3rd although still very happy with my performance. Looking forward to closing out this semester with some exams this week and taking to the start-line in Bonelli on the weekend.” – Peter Disera
On Sunday, Peter and Quinton took their turn on the Short Track course. With only little time to separate from the other riders, this race is short and competitive and all about a good start. In the end, Peter finished 11th and Quinton earned himself a solid 18th place.
Norco Factory Team’s Haley Smith was not racing in the Fontana US Cup as she was representing Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Next up for the Factory Team is the Bonelli Park US Cup and Sea Otter in Monterey, California.
